Title: Kimberley Coast
"This image was taken looking back at the coast from a sea plane on a trip to the horizontal waterfalls off the Kimberley coast. I love the texture and simplicity of the shapes within the frame.
The waterfalls are set within Talbot Bay in the Buccaneer Archipelago and were a highlight of our travels to the west. The flight across the coast from Derby, although hidden in this image, was across bright glistening azure blue water.
This photograph is a favourite of mine because of the shadows cast and its strong reminder that we left the mainland behind to head towards adventure.
Despite it looking black and white, the image is actually in colour. The rings around the coast are shadows of the trees cast on the edge of the Kimberly wilderness and the light on the ocean adds contrast with interesting texture.
It was taken in winter mid afternoon with a Canon 6D at 50mm on F18, handheld through the window of the plane at 1/800 and with an ISO 320."
